Band Camp Information 2022
August 8 – 11, 8:00 am until 5 pm
August 12, 8 am until noon
ATTENDANCE IS CRITICAL TO OUR SUCCESS!!!
We need to have our first pregame and halftime show learned at camp to be ready for the first football game.
We will continue working to share athletes with their other programs. Band camp happens rain or shine! We will start each morning in the HS band room. If you must be late or be absent a day, please communicate to the directors!!!!
NEW THIS YEAR….CAMP IS AT TWO DIFFERENT LOCATIONS!!!!!
Due to most practice fields not being completed at the new HS, many programs have had to adjust where they practice this fall. This includes us! Therefore, we will start each day at 8 am at the NEW high school. After lunch, we will move to the OLD high school for an outdoor rehearsal in the old stadium. Students can be picked up at the OLD high school after our afternoon rehearsal.
We will provide transportation via bus to the old HS after lunch. ANY STUDENT WISHING TO PROVIDE THEIR OWN TRANSPORTATION TO THE OLD HIGH SCHOOL MUST BRING THE ENCLOSED TRANSPORTATION WAIVER FORM (used by all Big Walnut groups).
WHAT TO BRING/WEAR
Dress comfortably but appropriately!
Wear tennis shoes….not flip flops or sandals!
Thermos or refillable water bottle clearly marked with your name
Sunscreen….we will be outside a lot!
Band Camp Fee
The fee for band camp is $50 and can be paid online by visiting www.bwhsvocalmusic.org and scrolling to the “Donate” button. Please put in student name so proper credit is given.
Cash or check (made out to Big Walnut Music Boosters) is also accepted on the first day of camp.
The fee covers all catered lunches and any costs of our optional evening social activities.
All lunches are served in the BWHS cafeteria by the Big Walnut Music Boosters and staff. Students are welcome to bring their own lunch or supplemental food if they have food allergies or don’t care for what is served. (See other side)
Monday – Fazolis
Pasta with marinara, pasta with meat sauce, pasta with alfredo sauce, salad with choice of dressing, breadsticks
Tuesday – Raising Canes
Chicken tenders, fries, Texas toast
Wednesday – Antonio’s
Pepperoni pizza and cheese pizza
Thursday – Jersey Mikes
Assorted Jersey Mike’s subs and chips
Evening Social Activities
Our social activities are optional, but a good time to get to know others, relax and have a good time!
Tuesday – Pool Party, 8:00 pm to 9:45 pm
Hosted at The Lakes Country Club, located at 6740 Worthington Rd, Westerville. This has become an annual favorite of the band! Come relax, cool down after a day of sun and help create the “whirlpool”.
Wednesday – Bonfire, place and time TBD
Anyone wanna host the annual bonfire at their house? Email Porter!
Thursday – Senior Night at BWHS, times TBA
This is a special evening for seniors only!
Fall Uniform Fittings
Mrs. Huston and Music Booster volunteers will be fitting students into their fall uniforms during rehearsals. The music boosters provide the uniforms for students to use free of charge. They are very expensive so we are particular in how students care for them!
WE ARE STILL IN NEED OF PARENTS TO ASSIST WITH UNIFORMS FITTINGS!
Group and individual pictures will be taken at 9:30 am on Thursday, August 11th. Picture forms will be available at camp.

Lots of information (sometimes last minute) is sent via text through the Remind app. Students REALLY need to sign up, but lots of parents also find it helpful to get information that way as well. It is strongly suggested that everyone do the following:

Parents and students are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to join the appropriate band “Remind” group if they have not already done so. Important information can be sent out quickly for such things as:
- A change of uniform for a performance due to weather.
- Information regarding a change of return time after a performance so that parents aren’t stuck waiting and wondering.
- General reminders about report times, activities, etc.To get this important info, parents and students sign up as follows:

Chaperones Needed! New BWLS rules in effect!
We are in need of chaperones for our trips this fall!
Big Walnut Local Schools now require all chaperons/volunteers to have a background check and application on file with the school district. To do so, please visit http://www.bwls.net and click on Parents/Community to scroll to “Volunteer Opportunities”. Volunteers need to do this at least one week prior to the trip. All of our chaperones and equipment bus drivers need to do this ASAP!
